Chesapeake Bank wanted to shake up the kickoff to Shop Local Day this time around by hosting seven different Cash Mobs across our participating communities. Shorty’s Diner (Williamsburg), Juan’s Mexican Café and Cantina (Gloucester), Linda’s Diner (Mathews), Car Wash Café (Kilmarnock), Five Forks Café (Williamsburg), Olivia’s in the Village (Gloucester) and The Local (Irvington) were selected as Cash Mob locations.
While at the Cash Mob locations, Chesapeake Bank employees handed out $5 bills to customers dining in, totaling almost $1,000 across all seven establishments. Our employees also handed out Merchant Offer lists and Shop Local Bags, and for twenty-eight lucky shoppers, a $25 gift card to a local business was in their shopping bag, ready to be spent!
At one Cash Mob, a family that came to dine in received a $25 gift card to The Local; which paid for their breakfast that morning (their gorgeous standard poodle Skipper probably wished he got more out of the deal, but we’re sure he got some treats later). Another recipient of a gift card for Maggie’s in White Stone went into the store that same day and told the owner she had never been there. She ended up being very impressed with the store, so much so, that Maggie’s has gained a new customer.
