It’s no secret Chesapeake Bank is “All about Community.” Chartered in 1900, our first customers were watermen, farmers and small business owners – and we’ve been focused on community since. With deep roots throughout Virginia, we were thrilled to open our first Richmond branch in 2015.
Westhampton was the perfect spot: a neighborhood with thriving locally owned businesses and a tight knit community. It’s not always easy being the new kid on the block, but everyone has welcomed us with open arms.
You supported us as we launched our #ICareAbout campaign to learn what causes our employees and the community cared about most. You helped us raise money for the Reinhart House, FETCH a Cure and Meals on Wheels, donate clothes to a local women’s shelter and restore the neighborhood’s historic Westwood Park and Playground.
Throughout 2016, we strutted our stuff at the annual Mutt Strut and Pets on Parade to help pets in need. We Partied on the Avenues, Rocked on the Avenues and ran in the Evelyn Reinhart 5K. You cheered us on as we competed at the Children’s Hospital Foundation Battle of the Banks (and were this year’s champions! Go team!).
We ate our fair share of seafood at the JMU Summer Crab Fest and donated three $1,000 scholarships to Richmond students going to JMU (Go Dukes!). We got involved in the RVA Business Works Mayoral Forum and partnered with the Richmond Kickers to ‘kick off’ the Community Ticket Program, giving away free Kickers tickets to local kids.
None of this was possible without the immense support from our new neighbors. To everyone in Westhampton: Thank you for making us feel welcome and cheers to 2017!
