If you build it, they will come. Chesapeake Bank saw the truth in that classic Field of Dreams quote at the inaugural I Care About event that raised more than $600 for local nonprofit, Friends of Westwood Playground.
As a community bank that truly lives its brand of community service, giving back and choosing local, there are times when it’s important to put your money where your mouth is and do something that benefits a cause you care deeply about supporting. Chesapeake Bank did just that and was rewarded for the efforts with a rare break in the July RVA heat for their friends.
In the months leading up to the #ICareAbout event, Chesapeake Bank invited the community, customers, vendors, neighboring business and those affiliated with Westwood Park to come out for a night of fun, food, local brews and live music from Richmond band The Tide Rose. With a come-one, come-all vibe, guests were invited via Facebook, word of mouth, vendor emails and signage shared throughout Westhampton.
The idea to host the event was born out of its current marketing campaign that features different employees and the causes they care about most. Friends of Westwood Park was the nonprofit that Business Development Officer Kristie Smith chose for her piece of the campaign.
“This is a cause that is near to our heart because this is our new neighborhood. If there’s a way to make a difference and preserve a piece of history, then we owe it to everyone to help out,” said Smith.
