I Care About: Gloucester’s Business Community

When looking for a job, people always say that you should do something that you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life. While many find jobs that they enjoy, few are lucky enough to find one that they truly care about.

Steve Callis, vice president, and commercial loan officer at Chesapeake Bank, is one of the fortunate ones. Through his work, he served as a business plan judge for Gloucester’s Community Business Launch that helped bring small businesses to Gloucester and seeks opportunities for them to grow.

Steve, along with the other judges, judged proposals to help local businesses gain a better foothold in the community. In their positions, they were able to see the wealth of potential that the area had and build upon it through their choices.

For Steve, it’s all about helping Gloucester thrive. In addition to his work with the Community Business Launch, he has served as president of the Gloucester Rotary Club and is a board member at the Gloucester Revolving Loan Fund, the organization affiliated with Main Street Trust in Gloucester. Steve sees tremendous potential in the region and strives to make it the best it could possibly be.
