Not Just a Community Bank in Name Only

If there’s one thing we love at Chesapeake Bank, it’s “community.” So it means a lot to us that last year, even amid a pandemic, we were able to serve 121 organizations with 4,710 hours, between 92 volunteers.

Partnering with our local communities is so much more to us than connecting dots on a map. It’s a genuine reliance on each other–coming together to make bigger things happen.

While this is not a comprehensive list, here are a few things we accomplished in 2021 from each region that make us proud.

Community Involvement:

  • Supporting Rappahannock General Hospital in their campaign for a new Emergency Department in the Northern Neck.
  • Partnering with the Local Economic Development Centers, Chamber of Commerce, and radio stations to BOOST our local economy with gift cards and raffles in each of our regions. Together we helped to infuse over $65,700 into our local businesses, with free consumer spending.
  • Holding pop-up Ice Cream events in Richmond and Williamsburg to say thanks for being a part of our community.
  • Continuing to administer The Ben D. Conley Charitable and Educational Foundation, through Chesapeake Wealth Management (CWM), which foundation provides annual charitable donations and scholarships to worthy recipients in the Northern Neck.
  • Continuing to serve as trustee [CWM] of the Mason and Lula Cole Charitable Trust, which gave away more than $270,000 this past year to non-profits in the Northern Neck area.
  • Pledging $25,000 to support Riverside Cancer Care, providing vital resources to help patients and their families in Gloucester, Williamsburg, and on the Peninsula.
  • Supporting the capital campaign for The Heritage Humane Society through a 3-year pledge, which supports the building renovation and expansion.
  • Hosting one of the only in-person Business-After-Hours events for the Gloucester Chamber at our Flexent office.
  • Hosting an event that landed a six-figure donation to the Boys and Girls Club of the Northern Neck.
  • Kicking off the a capital fundraising campaign for the Mathews Visitor Center to restore their historical building.
  • Rotating schedules in our Middle Peninsula offices to provide volunteers to the Gloucester-Mathews Free Clinic.
  • Partnering with Chesterfield Gives Back to give thanks to our First Responders and their families.
  • Maintaining our Chesapeake Community Room at BizWorks to extend growth opportunities to other businesses, groups, and non-profits in Richmond.
  • Manning the trolley and serving hot cocoa at an event arranged by the Westhampton Merchants Association to spread holiday cheer.
  • Our Chesapeake Payment Systems team worked in conjunction with Here for the Girls to support the United Way Day of Caring.
  • And they, along with CWM, continued their annual support of The Arc of Greater Williamsburg’s 5K.

All of these, in addition to ball games, food drives, meal deliveries, and so many more events just like them.

We even launched a ThankU Checking account in 2022 to serve our local heroes such as emergency responders, teachers, and health care professionals.

In Closing,

Giving back is vital to any community to sustain it, but it’s also fun, uplifting, and dear to our hearts. Our employees take pride in being an active part of making the communities better where they live and work.

We’re grateful to be a part of yours.
